WHAT IS SECRET 7"?
Secret 7” takes 7 tracks from 7 of the best-known musicians around and presses each one 100 times to 7” vinyl. It's a competition that openly invite everyone to create artwork for the 7 tracks. The result is 700 unique records which are exhibited in London before being auctioned. However, buyers don’t know who created the artwork or even which song it’s for, until they have parted with their cash.
Explanation
The song i choose is "This is a call" by Foo Fighter.
Dave Grohl used to be a drummer for Nirvana and consider to be one of Kurt Cobain’s bestfriend. The months following Cobain's suicide were very difficult for Grohl, not just because he had lost a bestfriend, but because he lost his musical direction and inspiration. Thanks to a great deal of encouragement from his friends, he found his musical voice and set to work on his solo project that would become Foo Fighters. In this single, Grohl also played every instrument on it, and did the vocals. Released as the first Foo Fighters single, the song was an emphatic statement by Grohl and proof that he could carry a musical project on his own. This was no small feat considering he was doing the work - lyrics, vocals, guitar - that Cobain had once handled for him.
For the vinyl sleeve design, I brought the song name, part of lyric and the story behind the song to a visual as a mix style of low-poly 3D art and collage.
